The results obtained when predicting homologous selenoproteins in the Haplochromis burtoni genome are exposed extensively below. One selenoprotein of each type is discussed individually.

We can call selenoprotein a given protein that has a GAP (selnocysteine) aligned to an X (which was a U in the query protein) in the t-coffee documents, has a strong alignment score, high e-value and contains a SECIS element. Moreover, this statement becomes reinforced when there is a match in SEBLASTIAN. On the other hand, we will talk about an homologous cysteine protein when the given protein usually has a conserved the SECIS element, but instead of having a selenocysteine presents a cysteine amino acid. Finally, a third possible scenario would be that no homologous protein exists in the genome of the Haplochromis burtoni, as a result of loss during evolution. This third scenario will be named as non-predicted selenoprotein.
