Resum

Abstract

The goal of our research is to identify the existence of four selenoprotein families, Sel15, Fep15, SelM and Sel3, in the protist genomes sequenced between 2008 and 2010. The known sequences of the four selenoprotein families were extracted from the databases SelenoDB and TARBALL. In order to locate hits by aligning the selenoprotein sequences with the protist genomes we used the programs tBlastn, Exonerate, GeneWise and TCoffee. In adittion to this, we looked for SECIS elements and selenoprotein synthesis machinery in the considered potential selenoproteins. The obtained results are summarized in a table which directs you to more detailed information.
