Abstract:
Babesia bigeminais a single-cell protozoo parasite. We have investigated in its genome to find the selenoproteins that it codifies. Firstly, we traced the contigs which we were trying to find equivalent homologous selenoproteins of Homo sapiens, Plasmodium falciparum and Emiliana huxleii by completing BLAST search. On the other hand, we tried to search for SECIS elements in order to locate exclusive selenoproteins of Babesia bigemina. The computational analysis has given use the result that the organism does not have seleproteome, option that has been reinforced by the fact that we have not found the machinery known for the syntesis of selenoproteins.
Resumen:
Babesia bigemina es un protozoo unicelular parásito. Hemos indagado en su genoma para encontrar las selenoproteínas para las que codifica. Por un lado, mediante BLAST hemos rastreado los contigs de los que disponíamos intentando encontrar proteínas homólogas a selenoproteínas de Homo sapiens, de Plasmodium falciparum y de Emiliana huxleii. Por otro lado, a partir de la búsqueda de SECIS hemos intentado localizar selenoproteínas exclusivas de Babesia. El análisis computacional ha dado como resultado que el organismo problema no dispone de selenoproteoma, opción que se ha visto respaldada por el hecho de que tampoco hemos hallado la maquinaria conocida para la síntesis de selenoproteínas.
